Welcome to History in Hand!
This is History in Hand, an online exhibition initiative drawn from the archival collections at the National Sporting Library & Museum (NSLM) in Middleburg, Virginia. NSLM is dedicated to preserving, promoting and sharing the literature, art and culture of equestrian, angling and field sports. Founded in 1954, the NSLM houses over 26,000 books dating from the 16th through the 21st Centuries, a growing collection of fine art, and a sizable archive collection.
The online exhibitions here are made available through the NSLM Internship Program. Under the program, interns studying Library Science, Museum Studies, Archival Studies, Art History, and related fields work to provide maintenance and care for a diverse collection of books, photos, letters, posters, manuscripts, scrapbooks, and ephemera. As part of their time at NSLM, interns collaborate with staff to digitize, arrange, and exhibit portions of the collection for the public.
