External: Dorothy Neyhart's Equestrian Life

Identifier: SUMMER15
This exhibition was created by Lauren Garcia, Archival Studies intern at the National Sporting Library & Museum (NSLM), in summer 2015. Founded in 1954, NSLM's collections include fine sporting art, books and manuscripts dating to 1523, and an extensive archive collection.

The collection which this exhibition is drawn from is the Dorothy Neyhart Collection (MC 0011), which includes two scrapbooks, a handwritten hunting journal, and various photographs regarding Neyhart and her families' participation in the sport. This collection was donated to NSLM by Mary P. Stephenson in 1994. This exhibition uses images from the hunting journal and the two scrapbooks to tell the story of Dorthy Neyhart as she raced, become Joint-Master of Fox Hounds, purchased and spent eight years racing the successful Iollan, and eventually went on to purchase 23 acres of land where she spent the rest of her life.
